The second largest city in southern Greece, combining mesmerizing landscapes, open spaces and bustling commercial sites. Kalamata – known for the meatiness of its olives and its fine olive oil – is also a great destination for excursions, because of its breathtaking views.
Above the city is the ‘Castro’, a fortress dating back to the 13th century, with its wonderful views of the surrounding area. The area offers a rich variety of mountainous landscapes alongside green valleys, river channels, fishing villages and cliffs – there are secluded coves and ancient sites as well as large and well-tended beaches.
